Heads Up decision
Permalink

I laid it down but wasn't sure if it was the right move...

We were down to heads-up play in a short handed tournament...I had A,3 diamonds on the small blind. I was playing a loose aggressive player who also bluffed at times...before this hand, blinds had his stack at around 6 BB and mine at around 10BB.

I called and then raised 1 BB preflop and my opponent reraised another BB. I figured he was bluffing since he was short stacked and so reraised another BB to leave him with 2BB if he called me or 3BB if he folded...I had 6 BB left after my reraise. If he folded, I would have 13 BB.

He reraises my reraise and goes All-In with his last 2BB. If I call and lose I will have only 4 BB left and he will have 12 BB and pretty much our situations would be reversed. If I folded I would have 6 BB and he would have 10BB.

I ended up folding because even though I would be behind, I couldn't be sure my A,3 would hold up after the flop. He also had not reraised me too much in heads-up play, so I knew he had something.

He was nice enough to flip over the cards and show me his pocket Qs.

Unfortunately for him, 10 minutes later I won when he went all in on his J,9 suited and I called with K,10offsuit.....now had I called him with the A,3 suited (which in heads-up play I feel is a good pocket) I think I would have lost....it would have seriously short stacked me.
