Went to a friend's house for a home poker tournament.
We bought in with $10 each and there was 5 of us...with 1st and 2nd place.
You know when you watch those tournaments on TV with the pros and they show all the exciting hands? Well last night we had a game just like that and it was great because for the 2 hours we played our tournament there were so many "so close" hands and "ohh....by the river when someone went all in..
Like mine...I had pocket 9s and there were 2 people who had just put in a big blind amount. The two players were the cautious type and the blinds were expensive...so I thought I'd scare them off by going all in with my short stack.
It ends up heads up, one of them calls me and has more than enough to cover me, but if he lost he'd lose half his stack and I'd double up and be more than him now...if I I lost I'd be out of the game.
So he flips his cards over too and he has K,10offsuit.
The flop comes and it is 9,Q,2....I'm breathing a small sigh of relief that now I have trips. He is groaning...he's got a straight draw, needs a jack to beat me but thinks it is highly unlikely, and I'm thinking that too....woohoo I'm still in the game.
Then the turn comes and it is a J!!! My mouth dropped and I couldn't believe he got his straight and it was a gut-shot at that!! Now I know I'm out of the game...I cover my eyes as they turn over the last card...
The river comes and it is a Q! Oh man that was close, it gave me the full house and I was back in and I took a huge dent into his stack. There were 4 of us left in the game at this point.
